Description:
Jacket; from girl and woman’s festival costume. Base outer cloth of cotton indigo-dyed, hand-woven using alternating float weave structure to give a spiralling, ‘four-key’ design. Inner cloth and sleeves of hand-woven tabby weave, indigo-dyed. Decoration of embroidery in satin stitch on front bands below collar in blue silk with flowers and butterflies, edged on either side with narrow strips of folded silk and a repeating cross stitch pattern. On collar is rectangle of many lines of folded silk triangles in greens, red and a little gold. Collar is bound and backed with beaten shiny indigo-dyed cotton. Shoulder pieces are similar to front bands, and sleeve pieces have satin stitch design of water buffalo and dragons with sequins.

The outer cloth is hand-woven indigo-dyed cotton with an alternating float weave to give a spiralling four-key design. The decoration, worked in satin stitch, is applied to the sleeves, shoulders, collar and front facings.
