Comments:General information on inkstonesRawson 1992:The inkstones on which the ink was ground were made from various materials, principally stone but also ceramic. The most prized materials were inkslabs made of Duanzhou stone from Guangdong province, Shexian stone from Anhui province, and Chengni clay from Jiangzhou in Shanxi province. Of these, Duanzhou stone, available in a range of colours, was considered the best.
