Description:
Hanging scroll. Two delicate stems of flower-buds stand among the huge leaves of the tuberose plant – also known as the fragrant plantain lily – in this finely balanced composition. Lu Zhi called them ‘jade hairpin flowers’ in his accompanying prose poem (fu). He compares the flowers to Chang E’s jade hairpin (Chang E is the Daoist Moon Goddess). Painted in Ink and colour on paper.
