Comments:This elegant monochrome painting after the Yuan dynasty master Wu Zhen (1280-1354) demonstrates his remarkable command of a broad range of traditional brush techniques, compositional skills and fine shading. In his inscription Zhang Daqian discusses the use of different brush dots (dian) in works by Juran (active c.960-85) and Wu Zhen. His own painting is a creation inspired remotely by the study of works of these artists. The painting was executed in the Mogan Mountains not far from Hangzhou and about 200 kilometers south of Shanghai.
