Comments:Kawai Masatomo, 4/1999: The artist seems to be more familiar with the brush techniques of Shoei than of Motonobu. Probably a deliberate copy by an Edo Kano artist. Second half of 18thC or later. ‘1263 to 1265. These are modern copies. The ‘Hotei’ is painted in colours.’ (unattributed annotations in the specially interleaved Japanese Study Room copy of Anderson 1886)
