Ma Lin, the son of Ma Yuan, was a court painter of the Ning Zong (1195-1224) and Li Zong (1125-1264) dynasties. The inscription of Ningzong is painted, and the seal of Empress Yang’s Kungua is beside it. In the early spring, it is sunny after the rain. The bamboo branches and sparse trees are leaning on the riverside, the red flowers are dotted, and the ducks are swimming in the water. The scene selection is consistent with Su Shi’s poem “The Prophet of the Duck in the Spring River” in the Northern Song Dynasty, which is an example of the combination of poetry and painting. The water ducks in the foreground are flexible and small, either floating or diving. The misty apricot forest and the faint red flowers reflect the palace’s exquisite appreciation of flowers. In the middle view, the water bank stretches, the ink color is clear and moist, and the color is delicate, creating a sense of secluded space in the forest. The tree painting technique inherits Ma Yuan’s twig twig shaking brush technique, and shows the posture of trees, guiding the audience to appreciate the image modeling and brush and ink interest
