Period:Unknown Production date:6thC-7thC (circa)
Materials:stucco
Technique:moulded, incised, painted,
Subjects:guardian (?) soldier (?)
Dimensions:Height: 28 centimetres Width: 14.50 centimetres
Description:
Fragment of a stucco figure. Only the head of the bearded man remains. He is shown with a broad face and nose as well as bulging eyes. He wears a headdress which was wound around the upper part of his head and knotted in an intricate way. His rather fierce expression suggests that he was some kind of guardian (spirit?). The figure was made using a mould, but additional detail was added throught the use of incised lines. Remains of the black paint used to colour the beard and the pupils can still be seen.
