Comments:Zwalf 1985The Bodhisattva sits with his hands in ‘dharmacakra mudrā’; two large disc-shaped earrings touch his shoulders, and there is more jewellery at his wrists and on the crown. The original colours are much degraded, both on the gessoed area (face and chest) and on the lacquered robe, but there remain traces of red, blue, green and gilt pigments. The Lamaistic style is similar to that of the images carved into the Cloud Terrace of the Juyong guan gate, erected to the north of Peking (1342-5), and to some large porcelain Buddha figures made at Jingdezhen in the early 14th century.
