Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Details of the costume such as the hat can be related to other tomb figures of the Jiajing to early Wanli period. As with BM 1938.0524.29, this musician is engaged in playing a rousing instrument suitable for ceremonial use rather than performance. A green-glazed figure wearing a similar hat and carrying the same instrument is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
