Fragment of a statuette originally made of light grey clay that has been burned black. This is the upper body of the Buddha of which the shoulders and the right upper arm and hand remain. The right hand is raised to the shoulder with fingers extended and palm turned outward. This is the Abhaya mudra, the gesture of the Buddha Shakyamuni immediately after attaining enlightenment.
