Description:
Fragment of a clay vessel with an appliqué decoration. The appliqué plaque shows the head and upper body of a gandharva. Gandharvas are male nature spirits said to have superb musical skills. The one depicted here holds a garland and wears large round earrings, bracelets and a necklace. The upper body is naked, the hair in a topknot. The plaque was applied to a wheel-thrown vessel decorated with deeply incised lines.
