The model year of the imperial inscription is “Yiyou”. It can be seen that it was a work appreciated during the fourth southern tour in the thirtieth year of Qianlong (1765). As the empress dowager of Emperor Chongqing was very old, this was the last time Emperor Qianlong paid tribute to his mother. The inscription of the poem, “Traveler” and “Fisherman”, shows that Emperor Qianlong, in addition to the literati who enjoyed plum blossoms in his luxurious residence, also noticed fishermen who carried baskets with coir rainbows and walked barefoot, as well as tourists who rode towards the Green Flag Tavern. The traveler with an umbrella in the painting implies that rain and snow still fall in the mountains, so there is a saying that “six flowers are floating in the sky.”. The Emperor Qianlong highly appraised this snow landscape as the authentic work of Ma Yuan (active from 1190 to 1224) of the Southern Song Dynasty. However, judging from his handwriting and composition, it is closer to Wang Ge, a Zhejiang painter in the middle of the Ming Dynasty.
