Description:
Long fish of creamy-coloured white jade totally calcified with earth encrustation and cinnabar.

Comments:This fish is exceptionally thin and straight, with a blunt head, a round incised eye and a curved gill line. The snout of the fish has small extensions and slants to an edge. Fins are incised along the back and at the base of the belly, and the small tail is gently flared and bifurcated. It is pierced just behind the gills. Fish of this type have come from Shang sites. See Rawson 1995, p.228, cat.no.12.33. The elongated, slightly biconvex fish is well defined with round eyes, gills, and striated fins with a gently flared and sloping bifurcated tail. The snout of the fish has small extensions and slants to an edge. There is a small biconical perforation near the top edge just behind the head of the fish. Shang. Length 127mm.
