Description:
Fragmentary clay figure of a monkey playing a kind of pan pipes, in China known as paixiao (排簫/排箫). The animal is shown as having long hair and wearing a bracelet on the left arm. The figure is flat on the reverse side and damaged so that only the upper body remains. It was made using red clay and covered with a light grey slip. The fingerprints of the artists can still be seen on the reverse side.
