Comments:Jin Cheng mentions in his inscription having painted the landscape in the style of the scholar-official Dai Xi (1801-60) who was known for his talent in copying earlier masters The calligraphy in an archaic seal script style (zhuanshu) cites a text by the scholar Lu Ji (261-303). The text associates the principles of nature and the elements of the universe with the principles of conduct for a ruler and his minsters. Jin Cheng dedicates the fan to the painter and collector Yan Shiqing (1873-1929), a member of the Chinese Painting Research Society.
