- Description:
Outside the cliff in the middle of the painting, there is the word “Xiao Zhao”. It is said that in the last years of the Northern Song Dynasty, he was a thief in the Taihang Mountains. One day, he captured Li Tang and then learned painting. Later, he also entered the Southern Song Painting Academy. On the left side of this picture, there are many steep rocks. From this middle part of the mountain, a platform rock block stretches out, on which two people talk with each other, as if they are looking into the view of the opposite bank. The composition of the mountains in this painting has removed the effect of the grand view of mountains and waters in the Northern Song Dynasty, and is similar to the close view of mountains and waters with rich images in Li Tang’s “The Painting of Pine Trees in Wanhe Valley”. With solid rocks and confused distant mountains, it creates a scene of reality and emptiness.
