Suwu sent an envoy to the Huns to be detained, kept integrity and unyielding, and moved to the Beihai to herd sheep for 19 years; Li Ling went out to fight against the Huns and was forced to surrender after exhaustion. Emperor Wu killed his family, so he could not return to the Han Dynasty. When Li Ling heard that General Su Wu had returned, he came to see him off. He wept and was very sad. In the painting, Su Wu shakes hands with Li Ling to say goodbye. The bleak scenery echoes the sad expression of the characters.
