Li Tang (about 1049 – after 1130, another said about 1070 – after 1150), a native of Heyang, is known as Xigu. He served in the Imperial Academy of Painting in the Huizong Dynasty of the Northern Song Dynasty. After the Jingkang disaster, the Central Plains was in chaos. Li Tang crossed the river to Hangzhou during the Jianyan period (1127 – 1130). During the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131 – 1162), Emperor Gaozong rebuilt the painting academy. Li Tang entered the academy again and awarded the title of Zhonglang.
