Yan Wengui (from the second half of the 10th century to the first half of the 11th century), a native of Wuxing, Zhejiang Province, was appointed by Renzong Painting Academy. The landscape is mostly made of huge peaks and high walls. The layout of the buildings is exquisite, and the landscape is fine and clear. This painting shows the waterfalls on the mountain and the view on the floor. On the left side of the stone wall, the official said, “The Imperial Academy is waiting for the imperial edict Yan Wengui pen”. The mountain outline is drawn with heavy shaking lines. The valley is painted with light ink to create the effect of bright and dark air. The brushwork is fine and dense, which can represent the characteristics of Yan Wengui style. However, the pen is rounder and mellow, which is different from the more vigorous pen. It is the evolution of Yan Wengui style in the 12th and 3rd centuries.
