Su Shi (A.D. 136-1101), who was born in Meishan, Sichuan Province, had the name of “Zizhan”. In his early years, he learned Lan Ting’s calligraphy, which is as beautiful as Xu Hao’s, while in his middle years, he learned Yan Zhenqing and Li Yong’s calligraphy. Looking at his book, Huang Tingjian is reputed as the first in the Song Dynasty.
