Xu Beihong’s Double Magpie Chart Axis

[Xu Beihong’s Double Magpies Painting Axis]

The Double Magpies Painting Axis, in modern times, is painted by Xu Beihong, in paper, with colors, 60.7 centimeters vertically and 53 centimeters horizontally
Self title: “Mr. Jinghan has a sixtieth birthday. Written in the middle of the country by Ren Wu Chun Miao Xiang. Sad Hong.” Sealed with the seal of “King Sun of the East China Sea”, Bai Wenfang
The year of Renwu was 1942, and Xu Beihong was 47 years old
“Miaoxiang Country” is an ancient name for Dali, Yunnan Province, which aims to praise the prevalence of Buddhism in Dali and the peaceful scene of birds singing and flowers fragrant in every family. Therefore, it is also called “Buddha Country” here. In 1942, Xu Beihong came here to hold a personal calligraphy and painting exhibition. In his spare time, he toured the local shrines, temples, and beautiful natural scenery. He once wrote the sentence “Begging for food in the wonderful fragrance country, enchanting the soul in the clear blue stream.”. This picture is an auspicious painting created by him during Dali for “Mr. Jinghan’s 60th birthday”. The picture depicts a pair of magpies standing on a plum tree branch singing happily. The author skillfully uses the homophonic method in traditional Chinese culture, using the “joy” of a magpie to refer to the “joy” of a happy event, and the “mei” of a plum flower to homophonically refer to the “eyebrow”, which means “wishing happiness and longevity”
The magpie in the picture has a front and a side, both with accurate and rigorous modeling and reasonable perspective, demonstrating the author’s profound sketching skills. The trunk of the plum tree branches is dyed with light colors, and the winding thick trunk and swaying fine branches each have their own shapes. The picture is full of curve beauty. Plum blossoms are made with bright red punches, and although they may not resemble each other in shape, their bright colors and light strokes perfectly set off the festive theme of the painting.
