[Jasper antique drinking wine]
Jasper antique drinking wine, Qing Qianlong, height 18.7 cm, mouth width 7.4 cm
This jade goblet is a taotie shaped goblet made of antique bronze ware. The dark green color of the jade naturally shows the color of bronze rust spots, making it a masterpiece of the manufacturing department
In the Qing Dynasty, the scope of “jade work” manufacturing at the Yangxin Palace Manufacturing Office was mainly made of jade, including all materials that required mound work, such as agate, tourmaline, and jadeite. At that time, many cities also had jade craftsmen, such as Suzhou, Yangzhou, and the Hui region, which were all concentrated areas for skilled craftsmen. During the Qianlong period, a large number of exquisite and translucent jade artifacts appeared in the market of Yangzhou. At that time, the supervisor and weaver used this jade as a tribute, which was reprimanded by Emperor Qianlong. On August 14th of the 59th year of Qianlong’s reign (1794), an edict was issued to the governor of Yangzhou and the weaver of Suzhou, to the effect that it was necessary to strictly prohibit the carving of such jade objects. “Because all containers are useless after being hollowed out, even if they are not containers, the beauty of jade completely disappears if they are all exquisite.”
This edict is very relevant to the current disease of jade making at that time. The jade drinking cup introduced here is a so-called Du Qi Gui Pu utensil made by the Office of the Heart Cultivation Hall, which belongs to the utensil for correcting seasonal diseases.
