[Zhang Zongcang et al., Emperor Qianlong’s Song Yin Brush Horizontal Axis]

The horizontal axis of “Emperor Qianlong’s Song Yin Brush”, painted by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Zongcang et al., paper edition, ink, vertical 96.2 cm, horizontal 156 cm
Recognition: “In April of the 18th year of Qianlong’s reign, a minister named Zhang Zongcang was officially painted.” Under the seal, two Zhu Wenfang stamped “Zhang” and “Zongcang”. “The 18th Year of Qianlong” is 1753, when Emperor Qianlong was 43 years old. On the upper right of the painting, Emperor Qianlong inscribed a five-character poem: “In the midst of pines, rocks, streams, and streams, it is overcast and cold in summer. The idea is to sit on a platform and float across the width of the garment. Those who can do their best, while those who work take advantage of this leisure. It is said that it is appropriate to enter the painting, and bandits admire the bamboo skin crown. It is inscribed on the summer day of Guiyou.” Under the seal, “Even if there are many things to rejoice in,” the white text seal, and “Emperor Qianlong’s brush,” the Zhu text seal. This poem is the same as the inscription on the axis of “The Painting of Emperor Qianlong Playing Qin” painted by Zhang Zongcang in the same year
The image of Emperor Qianlong dressed as a scholar and created with a pen is depicted. Emperor Qianlong, as the ruler of the Qing Dynasty in its heyday, not only diligently studied Han culture in his spare time, but also actively participated in literary creation. The vast majority of his poems and essays were improvised during activities such as politics, tours, banquets, reading, and appreciation. The poetry was mostly plain and lacked literary and artistic value, but it had certain historical value. According to current statistics, his only imperial poems amount to more than 40000, not including more than 700 of the “Complete Works of the Leshan Hall” and other sporadic works before his accession to the throne. Although some of these poems were polished or ghosted and annotated by ministers of the Imperial Academy, the number of his works is still the highest among writers of all dynasties. Emperor Qianlong, out of his love for writing poetry and compositions, often instructed palace painters to draw elegant images of him during his creation, and this picture is one of them
The portrait of Emperor Qianlong in the picture is realistic and lifelike, with a vivid expression of contemplation. The mountains and stones are continuously chapped and dyed, and the irregular ink dots are used as moss dots, which not only obtain thick strength, but also obtain the beauty of agility. The tall and straight pine trees, with their powerful and skillful brushwork, create a verdant realm of immortals, matching the relaxed and elegant literati image of Emperor Qianlong
