Yellow Ocean Pattern Embossed Satin, Qing Qianlong (18th century), 130 cm wide. European weaving
The satin material is a cut and used old material. Silk yellow, with good gloss, especially fine warp quality, with two strands weakly twisted into one strand. The weft thread is used together with yellow silk and cotton thread to make the satin material thicker and more crisp. The flower pattern is in the European Baroque style, with a satin weave on the warp surface to display the flowers, with the warp lines floating long and dense, forming a convex effect on the ground texture
This satin material should be imported from the West in the mid Qing Dynasty. The color is in line with the imperial court’s system of respecting yellow
