Bronze gilded statue of Infinite Shou Buddha

[Bronze Gilded Sitting Statue of the Infinite Shou Buddha]

Bronze Gilded Sitting Statue of the Infinite Shou Buddha, in the 55th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1790), with a height of 20.5 centimeters
The Buddha statue is made of three parts, namely, the Infinite Shou Buddha, the backlight, and the base, which are separately cast and inserted. The Wuliang Shou Buddha is made of copper hammers. He wears a treasure crown on his head, with a clay gold face, a tassel on his chest, and a treasure bracelet on his arm. He wears a topless right shoulder garment, which hangs down to the center of the front of the base. He holds the vase with both hands (the vase has been lost), and sits reclined. The backlight is in the shape of a gourd, and the exterior is decorated with flame patterns. The head light and body light are partially transparent. The base is extravagant on the outside, and the four corners are decorated with a deformed lotus pattern. The center is engraved with the “Made with Respect in the Gengxu Year of the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty”. The body of the statue is inscribed with a yellow label, which reads “Zijin Li Ma Wuliang Shou Buddha, collected on April 15, 55, and submitted to the manufacturing office.”
During the Qianlong period, there were many Buddha statues cast, with the model year generally engraved as “Made in the Year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty”, “Made in the Year of Qianlong”, “Qianlong Jingzhuang”, etc. The reference to specific models is mainly made by “Gengyin”, “Gengzi”, and “Gengxu”, which is because the Emperor Qianlong was born on August 13, 50, of Kangxi, According to the traditional Chinese age counting method, “Gengyin”, “Gengzi”, and “Gengxu” were the 60th, 70th, and 80th birthday of Qianlong, respectively. During these years, a series of celebrations must be held, and offering the Infinite Shou Buddha and wishing the Emperor Qianlong a long life is an essential part of the celebration. This statue was cast by the Fabrication Office for the 80th anniversary of Qianlong’s Christmas and presented on April 15th. It can be seen that the birthday celebration began a few months before Qianlong’s birthday
