In his later years, Emperor Qianlong was proud of himself. In the 57th year of Qianlong’s reign (1792), when the battle against Kuerke was fully won, Hongli was already in its eightieth year. He summarized all the military victories he had achieved since he took office, calling them “Shiquan Martial Arts” and boasting of “Shiquan Old Man”. He also wrote “Shiquan Ji”, which “stands out for a long time by demonstrating martial arts”, and was more intended to demonstrate his benevolent monarchy through military achievements. To this end, the jade seal “Treasure of the Ten Complete Elderly” was engraved, and the purpose was stated in writing. The emperor thought of performing his duties as a king, and prayed for God’s blessing on the emperor’s cause
Scrolled on the light yellow ground, 42 lines of running script in blue characters were taped, with the inscription “Qianlong Guichou Zhongchun Zhongzhong Yu Bi” at the end, which should have been written in the late February of the 58th year of Qianlong (1793). “The treasure of eight symbols and eight thoughts”, and “constantly striving for self-improvement”, Zhu and Bai Wenxi, respectively, were woven. The leading script is inscribed in a blue script with the words “Blessing of Duty”, with the words “Treasure of Eight Symbols and Eight Concepts” stamped directly above the four characters. This hand scroll tapestry is simple in workmanship, with flat tapestry as the main technique, and its tapestry is exquisite and detailed.
