The Treasure of the Emperor of the Supreme Court, with a total height of 15 centimeters, a button height of 7.3 centimeters, and a printed surface of 22.5 × 22.5 cm
It is made of jasper, made of Jiaolong Niu, with seal script in Manchu and Chinese characters. It is surrounded by a poem made by Emperor Qianlong, who wrote “The Treasure of Emperor Tai Shang”, and is contained in a red sandalwood box carved with cloud and dragon patterns
This “treasure of the Supreme Emperor” was made in the sixtieth year of Qianlong’s reign (1795). On September 3 of that year, Emperor Qianlong issued the secret edict for the establishment of the crown prince (the secret crown prince) written in the 38th year (1773), and appointed the 15th son of the emperor, Yongyan, as the crown prince. The next year, Xinzheng held a grand ceremony of abdication. After the return of Emperor Qianlong to power, he still lived in the Hall of Nourishing the Heart to train his government, while Emperor Jiaqing could only live in the Yuqing Palace where the prince lived. The title of the successor emperor, Jiaqing, was only used for external purposes, and the Qianlong title continued to be used in the palace. Important administrative powers such as reviewing memorials and appointing and removing officials remained in the hands of Emperor Qianlong
The “Treasure of the Supreme Emperor” on this side is the largest one among the imperial seals of the Qing Dynasty, reflecting the supreme power of the Supreme Emperor. After being made, this treasure was displayed on the imperial table of the Huangji Palace in the palace of the Supreme Emperor. In addition, there are several “Treasures of the Supreme Emperor”, all of which are made in Chinese seal script and used for calligraphy and painting appreciation activities
