Carved Red Tuanhua Letter Box, mid Qing Dynasty, 30 cm high, 32.7 cm long, 20.2 cm wide. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The box is of the laminated type of large and small letters, which can be opened and closed. There are four small boxes inside, and the lower bearing is connected to the foot base. The top surface of the box is carved with the four characters “Taiping Guangji”, and the two sides are glued into a letter shape with cut wood chips. The front and back sides are carved with a variety of circular brocade and flower patterns. The bottom and foot edges are both carved with circular patterns, and the bottom is painted with black paint, without style
The box has a unique design and a very novel floral decoration. Its exquisite carving, intricate patterns, and non abrasive techniques reflect the superb skills of lacquer carving in the mid Qing Dynasty. This box is the most characteristic representative work of carved lacquer in the Qing Dynasty
