Verois Vajra Thangka

[Willowa Vajra Thangka]

Willowa Vajra Thangka, 18th century, Tibet, cloth, color, 119 cm high, 73 cm wide, 63 cm vertical and 42 cm horizontal. The old collection of the Qing Palace
In this painting, Verois Vajra has blue double bodies, nine heads, thirty-four arms and sixteen feet. The main face is the head of an ox, which has three sides on the left and three sides on the right. The two sides on the top are both glaring and fangs. They are ferocious and terrifying, but the face of Manjusri Bodhisattva on the top is kind. The two main arms embrace the princess Luolangzawa (“Luolangzawa” is translated into Chinese as the dead body is recovered), and the rest of the arms spread out in a circle behind them, holding the law enforcement device in their hands. Concubine Ming has a light body color, three eyes on one side, and an angry face. She holds an axe in her right hand and a skull weapon in her left. The two figures are both naked and only decorated with wreaths, which means that the meaning is not covered. The upper part of the main statue is headed by Guru Tsongkhapa, and there are various inheriting gurus, including (from the left) the Wisdom Vajraya Mother, the 7th Dalai Gesangatso, the Guru Tsongkhapa, the 6th Panchen Lama Lausangbeden Yixi, Amara, (the second line) the Panzhik Lord Jie, Lalida, the Thermal Translator and the Ultimate Guru Awang Qiangba. The lower left part of the picture is the Red Willowa, the middle part is the brave protection method, and the right part is the External Cultivation of the Demon
Although there are many characters in this Thangka, the statues are scattered, and the layout is full and orderly. In painting techniques, we pay attention to the block expression of color, use pure colors and bright colors, and the lines are also flexible and lively, with the style of post-hidden painting. On the back, there is a white damask sign and a four-body inscription in Han, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan characters written in ink. The Chinese text is: “On February 11, the forty-sixth year of Qianlong’s reign, Zhongba Hutu Tu Sui Ben Kang Bu respectfully worshipped the benefit portrait of Yangti Verova Vajra… the first on the right”.
