The Emperor of Hell, also known as the “Lord of Hell”, the “Lord of Hell”, and the “King of Hell”, is the king in charge of hell. The King of Hell has various shapes. This Thangka depicts the figure of the King of Hell, with a blue body and a bull head and beast. Wearing five skull crowns, three eyes wide open, blood mouth wide, right hand waving skeleton staff, left hand holding rope; Hang a skeleton collar on the body, stand on the cow, and step on the body at the foot of the cow. The four statues around the main statue, except for the big black sky in the upper left corner of the picture, the other three are the Yan kings of different body colors: the red Yan king in the west in the upper right, the white Yan king in the east in the lower left, and the yellow Yan king in the south in the lower right corner
The Thangka is embroidered with the image of the Emperor of Prison on the natural color satin, and the embroidery thread is set with color to remove the halo. It adopts the techniques of flat gold, stitching, flat embroidery, loose needle, oblique winding needle, and seed punching, and the small grass is used for coloring. The heart of the painting is made of gold satin with the character of red gold longevity
There is a white silk label on the back of the Thangka, and the inscription in four characters of Han, Manchu, Mongol and Tibetan is printed on the ink. The Chinese text is: “On the first day of September, the forty-third year of Qianlong’s reign, the emperor ordered Zhang Jiahu Tuke to recognize the embroidered image of the emperor who worships the benefits… the second from the right”.
