[Xiebin Xiang Shengmo Jukui Stone Statue]
Jukui Stone Statue, painted jointly by Xiebin and Xiang Shengmo in the tenth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1653), is a silk version with light colors, 69.5 cm in length and 49.5 cm in width
The title of Xiang Shengmo in this picture is “thin as a pine forest. In August of the 12th century, the Marquis of Wen Xie Bin wrote a picture of Mr. Kui Shi and praised Xiang Shengmo for making up the picture. It can be seen that the picture was drawn in the tenth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1653), and Xie Bin was 52 years old
The picture shows that Zhukui stone is sitting on the Songjian stone, facing the stream on the right, and the stone bridge is horizontally framed. The water is clear and the mountains are far away. It is a quiet scene
“Kui Shi” was written by Zhu Maoshi, the uncle of Zhu Yizun, an epigrapher in the early Qing Dynasty. In the picture, Mr. Kui Shi sits against the stone, which is also common in his works of Shizeng Jing. Xie Bin pays attention to the treatment of the characters’ faces, but differs from Zeng Jing in the use of pen and color. In this painting, Zhu’s face is hooked in light ink, and then haloed in light ink. It is not covered with fat ochre on the face like Xie Bin’s other works, so it has a portrait feature similar to line drawing. Xiang Shengmo’s complementary painting method is exquisite, basically based on ink, with slight color, which makes the picture show a fresh air, and sets off the character characteristics of the protagonist, who is passionate about the landscape and leisurely and elegant. This kind of portrait painting, which placed people between mountains and rivers, was extremely popular in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
