[Ren Xiong’s Hundred Thousand Paintings]
The Hundred Thousand Paintings, Qing Dynasty, Ren Xiong’s paintings, clay and gold paper, colored, 26.3 cm vertically and 20.5 cm horizontally
The “Ten Thousand Paintings” is a collection of ten landscape masterpieces created by Ren Xiong in his later years. The title is named after the word “ten thousand”, namely, “ten thousand volumes of poem building”, “ten thousand points of green lotus”, “ten thousand peaks of flying snow”, “ten thousand wats facing the sky”, “ten thousand rods of misty rain”, “ten thousand pines and emerald trees”, “ten thousand forests and autumn colors”, “ten thousand valleys competing for the flow”, “ten thousand zhang empty flow”, and “ten thousand horizontal fragrant snow”, which implies perfection at most. The atlas is mostly drawn from the mountains and waters around the Taihu Lake Lake in Suzhou, but its content has expanded. For example, “Wanhu Chaotian” and “Wanheng Xiangxue” are based on the Tianping Mountain and Xiangxue Sea in Suzhou. “Ten thousand dots of green lotus” should describe the scenery of Hangzhou West Lake, while “Ten thousand feet of air flow” and “Ten thousand poles of smoke and rain” are imaginary islands and wonders of Xiaoxiang. In short, painters use “ten” and “ten thousand” to summarize the beauty and enjoyment of the world. The work is exquisite in brushwork, subtle in conception, profound in artistic conception, and full of decorative interest. It is full of romantic sentiment in realism. In particular, the author makes full use of the background color of the gold paper to make the cyan and green color more colorful, colorful and luxurious without losing the artistic effect of elegance.
