“Wuzi” is the 47th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1708)
According to the meaning of Tao Yuanming’s “Return”, this picture depicts the scene where Tao resigned from his official post and was “welcomed by child servants” when he left the boat and landed. As a painter who has been influenced by western techniques, the author is not obviously influenced by western painting techniques, except for some perspective of the hut structure. His brushwork basically belongs to the category of traditional Chinese figure landscape painting. The author pays attention to describing the spirit in form, and vividly depicts Tao’s cautious manner when getting off the boat and the respectful manner of the child servants
