Chenxiang wood carving brush holder of pine, bamboo and plum

[Agaric wood carving brush holder of pine, bamboo and plum]

Agaric wood carving brush holder of pine, bamboo and plum, late Ming Dynasty, with a height of 11.9 cm and a caliber of 11.3-10.8 cm
The pen holder is carved from agaric wood, and looks like a hanging bucket at the bottom of the pen holder. The outer wall is carved with jagged rocks, and a branch of old plum, several stems of secluded bamboo and several branches of Qiu pine are carved with relief and carving techniques. The pine trunk and plum branch are stretched as far as possible, but the bamboo stem is weak, so it is matched with several huge stones
This work is not as delicate as the ordinary agaric wood carving. For example, the mouth edge of the pen holder is only engraved with a negative line for one week, and there is no other decoration. The rock carving marks are also clearly visible. The beauty lies in the bold design, abandoning the stereotype, and expressing the spirit connotation contained in pine, bamboo, plum, stone and other objects appropriately in the rough. Although its size is small, its picture is not vulgar, and it shows its unique value in many agaric wood carvings.
