The pot is in the shape of a gourd, with a round mouth and neck, a vertical oblate abdomen, and a square ring foot underneath. A ribbon shaped ear is symmetrically placed between the neck and shoulder. Full body blue and white decoration. The mouth is painted with tangled chrysanthemum pattern, the abdomen is painted with Arabic pattern on both sides, and the ear is painted with broken branch pattern. The horizontal paragraph of “Da Ming Xuan De Nian System” in blue and white regular script is signed along the mouth from right to left. The feet are painted with green and white glaze
This gourd flat pot is an innovative shape of Jingdezhen Royal Kiln Factory in Yongle Period of the Ming Dynasty. It was continued to be fired in the Xuande Dynasty. The varieties include white glaze, blue and white, etc. The shape and decoration are all imitated from Western Asian Islamic handicrafts. Ming Yongle products are not marked with the model year, while Xuande products are generally marked with the model year.
