[Carved red plums and cranes round box]

Carved red plums and cranes round box, Ming Yongle, height 8.1 cm, caliber 26.5 cm. The old collection of the Qing Palace
Cane box section type, male and female mouth. Full body carved red lacquer decoration. The cover is carved with Lin Hejing’s “plum wife and crane son”. The box wall is carved with chrysanthemum, camellia, peony, lotus, rose and other flower patterns on the yellow lacquer ground. There is a poem inscribed by the Emperor Qianlong in the cover: “The song under the pines is covered by a winding fence, and the solitary pavilion is quiet and beautiful. The style knocks on the bamboo leaves, and the spring letter delivers the plum flowers. How can the crane avoid cooking tea, and the harp is not hanging on the wall. There are three or two servants, who do not recognize it as the Lin family. The Emperor Qianlong Renyin inscribed the poem.” The seal “Qianlong Chen Han” is stamped below. At the bottom of the box, there is a needle on the side of the “Da Ming Yongle Year” running script
“Plum wife and crane son” is the allusion of Lin Bu (968-1028), a famous scholar of the Song Dynasty. Song Renzong gave him the posthumous title “Mr. Hejing”. He has lived in seclusion in the isolated mountains of the West Lake in Hangzhou for 20 years. He has no wife and no children. He amuses himself by planting plum trees and raising cranes. He is known as “plum wife and crane son”. Qianlong’s poems coincide with this picture.
