This is the upper and lower guard board of the Yongle Tibetan Sutra. The board is rectangular, and the whole body is decorated with gold patterns on the red paint floor, and the outer surface is slightly raised. The outer surface of the upper warp guard plate has a rectangular opening composed of two matched ribs, and five groups of patterns are painted in the opening. In the center of the vase are three flame Mani beads, symbolizing the three treasures of Buddha, Dharma and Monk. There are four patterns of the eight treasures in the passionflower rolls on both sides. The flower is surrounded by lotus petals, and the edge is decorated with lotus flowers and grass patterns. The pattern of the lower guard plate corresponds to it. There are other four patterns in the opening. The inner surface of the upper scripture guard is flat, and there is a niche in the middle of it. The scripture name in Chinese and Tibetan characters is engraved in the shade. The Chinese text on the left side is “Ten Thousand Songs of the Second Great Prajna Sutra Volume IV Holy Wisdom to the Other Side”
The Yongle Tibetan Tripitaka is the first Tibetan Tripitaka in history. In the eighth year of Yongle (1410), Zhu Di, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, recommended the blessing of the dead concubine Xu, and invited Deyin Xieba, the fifth Karmapa living Buddha of the Karmapa Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism, to be the chief editor of this publication. The imperial edict was published in the Linggu Temple in Nanjing, and was awarded to the religious leaders of the Sakaba, Karmapa and Gelug sects of Tibetan Buddhism respectively in the twelfth year of Yongle (1414). At present, only those in the Sala Temple and Potala Palace in Tibet are still intact. The two scripture-protecting boards are the lost parts.
