[Chen Daofu’s ink brush landscape map axis]

The ink brush landscape map axis, made by Chen Chun in the Ming Dynasty, paper, ink, 107.8 cm vertically and 67.8 cm horizontally
The inscription on this page reads: “On the Dingyou Spring Day in Jiajing, Chen Daofu, a native of Baiyang Mountain,” and “Chen Daofu, a native of Baiyang Mountain”
Chen is famous in the painting world for his impressionistic flowers, and is known as “Qingteng Baiyang” together with Xu Wei. His handed down landscape paintings are rare, which shows that he has some special attainments in landscape painting. In the picture, the close view of the ancient trees on the flat slope is painted. A person looks up from the tree and looks into the distance. In the distant view, high rocks stand, beautiful trees become forests, and smoke and clouds are shrouded, covering the end of the stream. The painter’s freehand brushwork has a strong charm, and his handwriting is indulgent and fresh. It seems that the brushwork is casual when you look at it carefully, but when you look at the whole picture, the structure is tight, the ink color is different, and it is appropriate. The artistic conception of elegance, emptiness and leisure in the picture reveals the tradition of learning from Wen’s family.
