[Wen Zhengming’s picture axis of Xiang Junxiang’s wife]
The picture axis of Xiang Junxiang’s wife, Ming Dynasty, Wen Zhengming’s work, paper version, light color, 100.8 cm vertically and 35.6 cm horizontally
This picture is the only famous figure painting in Wen Zhengming’s early period. This picture is based on the two chapters of “Xiang Jun” and “Xiang Madam” in Qu Yuan’s “Nine Songs”. In the picture, Xiang Jun and Xiang Madame are in front of each other. The former holds a feather fan and looks back. It seems to answer the latter with a vivid look. The figure modeling comes from Jin Gu Kaizhi’s “The Legend of Women’s History” and “The Legend of Luoshen”. The figure is ancient and elegant, with long body shape, elegant long sleeves, dress dragging the ground, hairline drawing, vermilion and white powder, exquisite and elegant. From the postscript of Wen Zhengming and Wang Zhideng, we can see that Wen Zhengming asked Qiu Ying to draw on this title, but Wen was not satisfied with it after reading it, and he created it again. It can be seen that Wen is deliberately pursuing an “ancient meaning” and has different aesthetic interests from Qiu Ying. At the top of the painting, there are two chapters from the book “Xiang Jun” and “Xiang Madam”, and then the words “Ding Chou in February of the 12th year of Zhengde has not stopped writing in Yunguan”. In the 12th year of Zhengde (1517), Wen Zhengming was 48 years old. There are inscriptions and postscripts of Wen Zhengming, Wen Jia and Wang Zhideng on this picture
