[Wu Wenzhong Liuxi Fishing Boat Fan Page]
Liuxi Fishing Boat Fan Page, Ming Dynasty, Wu Wenzhong painting, silk version, color setting, 17.7cm in length and 50cm in width
At the top left of the fan page, I read: “A flat boat covers the five lakes, and the birds swallow the Wu. Where is the gold statue today? I will touch the painting again. Wu Wenzhong.” Seal “Wen Zhong”, “Wu Bin’s seal”
In the picture, a boat drifts with the current, one person is fishing in the bow, and a beautiful woman in the cabin leans forward and looks at each other. There are willows and flowers on the shore, strange rocks and green grass, and a pair of mandarin ducks swimming in the water. According to the poem in the painting, Wu Bin’s picture depicts the story of Fan Li, a doctor of the State of Yue, who retired after his success in the Spring and Autumn Period and returned to the Five Lakes with his beautiful family. “Five Lakes” is another name for the Taihu Lake Lake. “Owl Yi” is the surname Fan Li used after he returned to seclusion. Fan Li’s resourcefulness and his practice of retreating from the torrent after his failure have long been legendary. The painter depicts the life of “only envy the mandarin duck but not the immortal” with exquisite strokes, and the picture is full of lyrical meaning.
