Arhat is a young monk with plump and round cheeks, clear eyes, slightly closed mouth and big ears. Wearing cassocks, the cassocks are mainly green and yellow, and the edges are decorated with exquisite patterns, which are simple and natural. The words “Merit benefactor Yang □ and his wife Yang Zhang, Hua Zhu Daoji, craftsman Liu □. On the first day of October, the 21st year of Chenghua” are written in ink behind him
Glaze glaze is generally made of lead, iron, copper, cobalt and quartz. It is made by firing the raw material first, then applying the glaze, and then firing at low temperature. Traditional colored glaze is most famous in Hejin, Taiyuan, Yangcheng, and Boxing, Shandong Province. It is also produced in Yu County, Henan Province. Coloured glass statues in the Ming and Qing dynasties are not uncommon, but there are few clear records of the time of manufacture and the name of the maker. This image provides us with a yardstick of the times for studying the glazed statues in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
