[Zhuduan Hongnong Crossing the Tiger Axis]

The Hongnong Crossing the Tiger Axis, Ming Dynasty, silk version, color setting, 174 cm vertically and 113.3 cm horizontally
This picture depicts the story of Liu Kun in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is said that when Liu Kun was appointed as the governor of Hongnong (located in today’s Henan Province), he was loved by the people because of his wise political achievements. The tigers could not bear to do evil here again, and carried their young tigers across the river. The swimming tiger in the picture is half hidden in the water, and gradually goes away. Liu Kun, dressed in red, watched the scene on his horse. The attendants and people around him were surprised and excited, and pointed to the report. Surrounded by dead trees and wastelands, there is a remote scene of wild animals. The painter uses ink freehand brushwork to draw the outline of the mountain stone with the side front lying pen and rough and simple lines, and uses the incisive ink and unrestrained brush to dye the texture of the mountain stone once. The leaves are dotted with disorderly thick ink. The strokes are unbridled and dynamic.
