[Three-color glazed Puxian statue]

Three-color glazed Puxian statue, Ming Dynasty, 134 cm high, 68 cm wide
Puxian has fine eyebrows and eyes, slightly closed eyes, straight nose and big ears, calm and solemn face, sitting with folded arms, folded hands, and a mountain seat. In front of the seat is a white elephant mounted by Puxian. The back is engraved with the words “Li Bao □ □ □ She Di Gai Tang, Ruyang County, Runing Prefecture, Henan Province, the landlord Hu □ Ming is outside, Ji □ Hua Ming, Hu Taiguang’s Li Qingjing, Liu Zhiguang’s Wu, Li Jishi’s Lan, the female benevolent Wan, the fourth sister Huang Xi and the male Huang Gui, Min Hu’s Yang, Wu Tongshi Chen, and Huang Yue’s Zheng, all of which constitute a Bodhisattva. Liu Zhen, the glass craftsman of Shenhou Town, Junzhou, and Liu Ruishi, the male.” The vow not only indicated the name of the sculptor, but also the birthplace of the sculptor and craftsman. It can be seen from the craftsman’s native place that Yuxian County and other places in Henan Province also have the tradition of making colored glaze, which provides us with new information to study the production of colored glaze in the Ming Dynasty.
