The picture is led by Liu Su-ti: “A poem by Mr. Lang Duanmu Xiaosi, a member of the Military Department of Shoufengxun Doctor”. From this, we know that this picture was painted by the calligrapher Duanmu Zhizhu in the early Ming Dynasty. The “Ding Hai” in the poem is the fifth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1407). Duanmu Zhi was 60 years old. On the back paper, there are poems written by Zeng Yu, Xu Han and others
In the picture, a spacious hall is located between the pines and green bamboos. The host sits in the middle, and the birthday congratulators come in succession. Behind the courtyard, there are high mountains and waterfalls. The scenery in the painting is concentrated on one side, obviously continuing the half-sided composition of “horse and summer” in the Southern Song Dynasty. Freehand brushwork, short and vigorous. The figure sketch is simple and has a little form
Dai Jin was only 20 years old when he drew this picture, which is the earliest work of his known creation age. It is of great significance to understand Dai Jin’s early experience, communication and early painting style.
