This seal script has the title of “Mist in the Cold Forest”, and is signed with “Written by Shen Shichong in the summer of Guiyou”, followed by the seal of “Shen Shichong” (in white) and “Ziju” (in white). According to the author’s title, this picture was painted in the sixth year of Chongzhen (1633) of the Ming Dynasty. In the picture, the cliffs are towering, the smoke is caged in the cold forest, and the pavilions and the distant hills are all covered by mist. It is a bleak and desolate atmosphere. The beautiful brush, thick ink color and moist halo dye represent the typical style of Shen’s landscape. The seal at the lower part of this picture has two seals: “Qin boat heart appreciation” (Zhu Wen) and “□ An examination and approval” (Zhu Wen).
