The picture shows the huge rocks in Pituo, the isolated pavilions in the sparse forests, the flat lakes like mirrors, the remote mountains several times, and the deep beauty and quiet. The ink is dry and cold, the chapped lines are thin, and the composition is simple. Although imitating Ni Zan’s painting style of “one river and two banks”, it shows a new realm of learning from the ancient but not adhering to the ancient. The author changed the typical style of Ni Zan’s Pingshui Yuanshan into a composition of wide rocks and high mountains. The close view also changed from flat slope to a corner of the mountain. The small trees and houses dotted with mountains, and the light red color are also the differences between this painting and Ni’s painting, thus adding a bit of peace and freshness to the clear and clean picture, without the dry and cold feeling of Ni’s painting
