“Harmony” refers to Shangcai’s Quotations cited in Volume 3 of Zhu Xi’s Records of the Origin of Yiluo: “Ming Dao (Cheng Hao) sits all day long, like clay figuring people, but he is in harmony with others.” Zhu Jianshen, Emperor Xianzong of Chenghua of the Ming Dynasty, drew the “Harmony Map” and praised it one year after he became the king. At first glance, “The Painting of Amity and Harmony” looks like a person, but in fact, it depicts three people, Master Huiyuan, Lu Xiujing and Tao Yuanming. This picture shows Zhu Jianshen, the Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty, who hoped that the three religions would merge, live in harmony, maintain stability in the country and the people. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the genre paintings with the theme of “Unity and Harmony” were also quite popular
