The picture shows the moment when a quail suddenly found a grasshopper in the season of green bamboo and wild chrysanthemum blooming. The plot is vivid. In the picture, quails dare not move, but are twisting their necks and staring at the grasshopper. The author skillfully uses the artistic technique of contrast in his creation. The quail is excited by the discovery of the gourmet grasshopper, and the grasshopper is calm because it does not find the natural enemy quail. The quiet space created by wild chrysanthemum and green bamboo reflects the cruel atmosphere of the upcoming hunt. The law of the jungle is the most basic biological law in nature, and also the most vivid subject matter in the painter’s works. This work is similar to the painting of Maple Eagle and Golden Rooster by Li Di of the Song Dynasty. In terms of creation, the author has inherited the tradition of courtyard flowers and birds since Cui Bai of the Northern Song Dynasty. The painted images are small freehand brushwork, with accurate and vivid shapes, showing the author’s keen insight and vivid brushwork skills
