This fan was made by Ni Yuanlu for his friend Qu Shisi. Qu Shisi (1590-1650), who was born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, with the name of Qitian and the name of Jiaxuan. In the 44th year of Wanli (1616), he became a scholar and served successively as the Supervisor of the County of Yongfeng County, Jiangxi Province, and Huke was in charge of the affairs. After Jiashen (1644), he successively served in the Nanming Hongguang (1644-1645) and Yongli (1646-1662) regimes, and was a famous anti-Qing general at that time. In 1650, the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, he died at the foot of Xianhe Ridge in Guilin Wind Tunnel Mountain. In the painting, there are undulating peaks, misty clouds and mists in the mountains, trees swaying in the wind, houses and halls looming in it, and the environment is quiet. Although the cloud imitates the painting method of Mi Fu in the Northern Song Dynasty, it is still under the influence of Dong Qichang. The mountains, rocks, trees and ink are vigorous and vigorous. It is an artistic innovation of Ni’s imitating the ancients and then the nature, and it is a masterpiece in the mature period of his painting art
The title of this picture is: “Imitation of Nangong. At the order of Mr. Jia Xuan. Brother Yuan Lu”, with the seal of “Yuan Lu” and Zhu Wenfang
