[Dong Qichang Lan Rong Chuan Color Map Axis]
Lan Rong Chuan Color Map Axis, Ming Dynasty, Dong Qichang’s work, paper version, ink pen, 138.8 cm vertically and 53.3 cm horizontally
This picture was created by Dong Qichang when he was 74 years old (1628). It is based on the expression of pen and ink, and is intended to talk about the gullies in his chest. On the basis of observing the natural landscape, the author explains his understanding of the nature of natural mountains and rivers with skillful pen and ink techniques. It transcends the specific shapes of mountains, clouds and trees, and describes the gods with shapes. Therefore, although every scene and every scene in the picture is not a true description of the natural landscape, the reader can appreciate the existence of real mountains and real water from its careful pen and ink modeling. Take the trees in the close view as an example, the trees with different shapes grow on the uneven slope with mutual cover. The trunk is double hooked with short lines, with different height and crooked changes. The trunk is light ink, chapped or haloed, which enhances its light and dark effect and three-dimensional sense; The leaves are more abundant, some of them cross with a large point of side front lying pen, some of them overlap with each other, some of them directly draw lines to form leaves, and some of them use lines to hook the two sides to form a leaf clip, with different looks. However, it is difficult to distinguish the tree species by referring to the objectively existing plants. Obviously, they are the best illustration of Dong Qichang’s aesthetic view of “reading thousands of books, walking thousands of miles, removing dust and turbidity from the chest, camping in the natural gullies, establishing – E (note: referring to the city outline), and writing casually, all of which are vivid landscapes”.
